  • When my girls were tweens and we talked about sex, the mention of condoms came up. I told them how important they were because unprotected sex could be dangerous and how it helps prevent pregnancy. I told them to make sure they had some available in case their partner didn't. I guess I didn't explain how it was used because I was hoping they and their partners could read directions when the time came to use them. And honestly, I didn't want that picture in my mind.

If you've already had a few conversations about sex, condoms should be an easy concept to discuss. As SurprisedMom mentioned, they are a way to protect yourself against some diseases and prevent pregnancy. They are a sign of responsibility.
