Ran 10 miles yesterday as part of my marathon training. It was tough, but I got it done!

Can't wait to get more into this group. My wife and I are really getting into endurance races (triathlons, half and full marathons, century cycling) and are challenged trying to balance our new passion and the family life.

Fresh fruit and yogurt is a great breakfast and snack. My favorite is fresh Strawberries and Dannon Light and Fit Vanilla Yogurt. If you want something that is sweet tasting but good for you, give it a try.

CUT the amount of alcohol you drink. Replace the second and third glasses of wine or beer with water. This really cuts the calories and you'll feel better in the morning.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple way for men and women to estimate body fat based on their height and weight. From the BMI, it is possible to determine your healthy weight range.
One of the limitations of BMI is that it can overpredict overweight or obesity in people who are lean and muscular. For instance, someone who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds, with 12% body fat, would be considered obese based on BMI standards. Obviously, someone with 12% body fat is not obese.
The scientists who developed the BMI guidelines readily admit to this limitation. But their rationale is that most Americans are not lean and muscular and so for most people, the BMI is an accurate assessment of body fat and increased health risk.

Healthy eating is all about balance. You can enjoy your favorite foods even if they are high in calories, fat or added sugars. The key is eating them only occasionally and balance them out with healthier foods and activity that is more physical.

The talk test is a simple way to measure relative intensity when doing an aerobic activity.
As a rule of thumb, if you're doing moderate-intensity activity you can talk, but not sing, during the activity.
If you're doing vigorous-intensity activity, you will not be able to say more than a few words without pausing for a breath.
