Description

I love music. We have made it a priority in our household. And part of that has included finding kids music my wife and I can also listen to.

So I invite you to share songs that you listen to with your kids. I'd love to have a new list of music to take with us on our long road trip this summer.

For my son's 8th birthday, I decided to pass on the presents and give him an itunes gift card. It was a great choice. He has taken his time over the past couple of months to seek out music he enjoys and we approve of. Unlike the toys or games he has received, he has really been into this gift. I say all of that to praise myself. Also to direct you to a musician he found and loves: Parry Gripp. This guy writes and performs truly silly songs, but they connect with kids. His popular songs include, "Do you like Waffles?" "Burrito song" "Fried Chicken," and "Cat flushing the toilet. Check it out.

I have gotten my kids to appreciate the music from the 80's, the same stuff I grew up on. Maybe it can make a come back. One of their favorite tunes right now is Paradise City by Guns n' Roses....classic!

Great subject for a group. Doesn't that go both ways...Like "Dad Music that Kids can Appreciate"
or something (?) My little girl (toddler) seems to likes Popcorn by Hot Butter, Les Artsists by Santogold, Rainbow Styling by Royksopp, Misdemeanor by Foster Sylvers, and she laughs hysterically whenever I play anything by the Fat Boys.

Rod- I have fond memories of my son going to camp asking very politely if he could play some music. The counselor agreed, I assume, expecting to hear, ABC, Mary Had a little Lamb-only to be hit with the "Godfather of Soul-James Brown." My kids enjoyed some of the B-52's too. And no dance party is complete without the Romantics, "What I like about you."

Yesterday, my kids were listening to the "Sugar Monster." It is an obnoxious charactor that loves sweets and anything sugar at the expense of all else. In every situation, the kids try to fool the Sugar Monster into thinking they will eat sugar, which gives him a sugar high. And then, they let on that they were only kidding. He then explodes. Every kid we've known between about 3-8 have loved this. And their parents have resented us for bringing it into their lives. Usually can find it on itunes

I'm not that familiar with Johnny Cash's expansive library, but I do know he did a kids album. One song from it that seems to connect with kids is "Nasty Dan."
